Tekville Education Expands Public Education Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)...Launches 'SDG Teachers' with SDG Youth
Tekville education and SDG Youth Launch 'SDG Teachers' to Promote Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Public Education.
Tekville Education announced on the 13th that it has launched 'SDG Teachers' in collaboration with SDG Youth. The initiative aims to serve as a catalyst for integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into public education.
SDG Teachers is a voluntary teacher research group consisting of 26 elementary, middle, and high school teachers from seven regions. Teaching materials and content necessary for SDG-related lessons will be provided through Teacher Mall and SSamdongne, both operated by Tekville Education.
The initiative was launched in response to the growing interest and demand among educators for effective utilization of School Autonomy Hours, a newly introduced component of the 2022 revised curriculum.
Starting this year, School Autonomy Hours have been mandated under the revised curriculum. During this time, teachers are encouraged to design their own lessons—beyond standard textbooks—covering topics such as global citizenship education, climate change, and sustainable development.
Moving forward, SDG Teachers will take on the role of expanding SDGs in public education by collaboratively promoting initiatives such as:
Through these efforts, the initiative aims to equip South Korean students with global leadership skills.
Professor Kim Taek-su of Kyung Hee Cyber University, who serves as the chair of SDG Teachers, stated, “Through SDG Teachers' nationwide teacher research groups, we hope that School Autonomy Hours in Korea will be established in line with international standards. Furthermore, we look forward to the day when Korea’s SDG education becomes a global role model and is presented at the UN.”
Lee Hyung-se, CEO of Tekville Education, emphasized, “SDG Teachers is the first step toward establishing practical solutions for achieving SDGs within Korea’s elementary, middle, and high school curricula. We will do our utmost to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals through close collaboration with SDG Youth and SDG Teachers.”
